BJP leaders demand to name Aligarh airport after Kalyan Singh On Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid his last respects to former Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh, while people were paying tributes to him from the airport. The BJP Stalwart died at the age of 89 on Saturday night.

Yogi Adityanath said that the people of Uttar Pradesh have great respect for Kalyan Singh. He also mentioned that Kalyan Singh was known as Ram Bhakt of the nation and prayed to god for giving them strength to fulfill his dreams. “Today, we have brought the remains of Kalyan Singh ji to Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar Stadium in his hometown Aligarh. We decided to bring the remains here so that Singh ji’s followers can see him for the last time.

He has been associated with the people of Aligarh for years”, Yogi Adityanath said while speaking to the reporters. In response to the reporters who asked whether the Aligarh airport will be named after Kalyan Singh, Yogi Adityanath said that a cabinet meeting will be held to discuss the issue. In line with the reports, after the demise of Kalyan Singh, BJP leaders restated their demand to name the airport after him. Earlier, BJP MP Satish Gautam, had sought the naming of airport after Kalyan Singh.

A district level BJP leader, Yatin Dixit, said that they have given a memorandum to the Chief Minister, demanding the airport to be named after Kalyan Singh. Following the demise, the BJP leaders have also demanded a statue of the veteran leader to be installed at a discreet point in Aligarh. Stating the developmental works undertaken by Mr Kalyan, Yogi Adityanath said that, prior to Kalyan ji’s resignation, he undertook several developmental projects for the poor and downtrodden.

He did not work for a particular caste or community, but for the welfare of whole society. According to Mr Yogi, he was a true RSS leader, who believed in Deen Dayal Upadhyay’s teachings. He also added that unlike other opposition leaders, who slammed the Ram Mandir movement, in the name of occupying the post of Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh was a leader of the masses. In addition, hours after mobs of Karsevaks demolished Babri Masjid, Kalyan Singh quit his position as the Chief Minister, owning moral responsibility. On July 4, Kalyan Singh was admitted in Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences due to his worsening health condition.

He passed away on Saturday, August 21. As per the statement by hospital, he died due to sepsis and multi-organ failure. Earlier, several BJP leaders had visited him at the hospital. Yogi Adityanath also met him and prayed for his speedy recovery.
